Call for Polifonia seminars

Dear AEC members and friends,We would like to inform you about the “International programme for
professional development and collaboration between teachers in music
academies and conservatoires” that will be organised between April 2009 and
April 2010 by the “Polifonia Research Working Group”.

This programme consists of three intensive workshops over a year for a
select group of twenty five participants. It is designed to bring together
the expertise and experience of musicians who teach in higher education in
music academies and conservatoires. It will provide opportunities to debate
key issues, reflect on practice, engage with research, and develop
innovative projects and collaborative research.

Please note that if more registrations will be received than places are
available, the Polifonia Research Working Group will inform the persons who
have subscribed on how further selection will be made.

The programme will help institutions to address critical aims such as:
§ Creating dialogue, reflection, critical thinking,
research-led teaching in conservatoires
§ Greater understanding about one-to-one tuition, its
potential and pitfalls
§ Maximising the potential of the musicians employed by
institutions
§ Building expertise in generating connecting
conversations within and between institutions
§ Accessing research funding

The aim is for 2 or 3 teachers from each of up to 10 institutions to work
together through 3 intensive workshop sessions. If for some institutions it
would cause financial difficulties to fund 2-3 of their teachers they might
consider working together with institutions they have close collaborations
with. Please note that in this case the Polifonia Research Working Group
will decide about each case individually to ensure the sustainability of the
workshops for the individual teachers and their institutions.

The workshops are scheduled for 20-23 April 2009 (Académie Musicale de
Villecroze, France), 28 September – 1 October 2009 (Kallio Kuninkala,
Järvenpää, Finland) and 19-22 April 2010 (venue to be determined). At the
moment only an indication for the costs can be given that will be around
750€ per participant. This amount includes the workshop fee (covering all
sessions and catering) as well as accommodation during the event for all 3
workshops. Travel costs will have to be covered by the institutions.

During the AEC Congress 2008 that took place in Aarhus a session was
organised during which the programme was presented. Institutions that signed
up for the workshops during this session will be given priority in the
selection of participants.
