This small paper proposes an integrated approach of staff development and research as an instrument for institutional change. It was presented in a meeting of six collaborating conservatoires (the innovative conservatoire - ICON).
The paper mentions four external arguments for institutional change that are often used in international conferences. Secondly it sketches the context of the Bachelor Master structure and the focus on the (new) master that has to deal with research as well. This paper combines and connects the two forces. They share the same background of changing society. The paper sees in this perspective the ‘BaMa pressure for research’ as a catalyst for change. The conclusion presents a blue print for a more integrated approach on staff develop and research.
